Stow-on-the-Wold Stocks Bone China Mug

Hand decorated and fired in-store in our very own kiln, this bone china mug features a hand-illustrated representation (designed by Cotswolds-based illustrator Gemma Hastilow) of the penal stocks in Stow-on-the-Wold square. There have been stocks on this site since the 15^th century, and they were used to publicly humiliate and penalise the unruly. England’s Statute of Labourers required every town to have stocks, so they are a common sight in many medieval towns. Each mug is made from high-grade bone china, ensuring a robust build and providing an elegant touch to your tea or coffee.
